In July, Parker and I along with Randy, our cubmaster, and Patrick,
one of our den leaders decided to check out a couple of
hiking trails to see if they would be good for the whole pack
to do. They were back to back on a Saturday and Sunday,
and both hikes ended up being about 5 miles long each.
For the first hike we drove up to Camp Marin Sierra to check
out the campsite for our pack camping trip we were planning.
We decided to take their hiking trail to the Yuba river.
It was more like cross country than a trail, but we eventually
found the river and the views were great.
The next day Parker, Hannah and I went with them again
to check out the hike to the University Falls. They are
water falls over large boulders that make 4 natural water slides
that you can slide down. The hike wasn't too bad going down
and when we got to the falls we all had lunch and the guys and
kids had fun going on the waterfall slides. The hike back
up was another story. The first 1/2 mile was so steep I thought
I would have a heart attack though it didn't seem to
bother Hannah and Parker as much. I must be getting old. In
the end, we decided that most of the pack wouldn't be able
to handle the hike so we decided to plan something else.
There are a lot of people at the slides, were they just strangers there at the same time?
ReplyDeleteThose slides look like a lot of fun, how cold was the water?
ReplyDeleteYes there were a lot of people there. I guess it is a popular place with the locals. The water was pretty cold. I didn't go in, just stuck my feet in it. The first three slides are pretty fun. Only Patrick went down the fourth which is steeper and the only way back up is to climb back up the slippery rocks was with the help of a rope. He said it was pretty treacherous and wouldn't recommend it.
