The week after school gets out the cub scouts have their
annual Twilight Camp. It's five days of fun activities,
sports and crafts. Parker always has a great time
and learns to do a lot of interesting things.
Building a birdhouse.
Making a cool, braided bracelet.
Hanging out with the guys.
Playing water games.
Playing ultimate frisbee and soccer.
Parker actually made the only soccer goal (his
first) for his team and the win. He was so
excited about it.
The boys get to make paper rockets and
then shoot them in the air with the rocket
launchers. They really go pretty high.
A wildlife center brought some animals for
the boys to see, including an African python,
a monkey, an alligator and some birds.
The boys really enjoyed getting to see
these awesome animals.
They got to work on part of their
Outdoorsman badge by learning some
outdoor cooking, including using a dutch oven.
Making pizza.
Monkey bread cooking in the dutch oven.
Making outdoor fudge. They put all the
ingredients in a ziploc bag and squeezed
it until all mixed. It was suprisingly good.
The finished monkey bread was delicious.
Shooting the bb guns. Parker gets better
each year and really loves it.
Parker's friend and our Cubmaster's son, Jack,
advanced to the boy scouts this year so he
was helping out at camp.
Our last night there was an African tribal dance
group who came to perform. They were really
good and when they asked for volunteers
to come help, Jack was quick to raise his
hand. He got to play the drums and some
other instruments and had fun doing it.
They got all the kids to get up and join the dance.
Every group was named after jungle animals.
Our webelos den were the Coatimundis.
Learning some geology for their Geologist badge.
Parker loves the archery and is getting
pretty good at it too.
Our webelos got to perform the flag lowering
ceremony on the last night.
The last night they had a flag retirement ceremony.
It was a very solemn, moving event. Jack, as a boy scout,
helped perform it for his first time. He did a great job.
Very interesting pictures and update, thanks!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how boys are attracted to the shooting activities? I have always wanted to try archery. Jonathan had it in junior high school during p.e. Some of them got in trouble for shooting at a dog on the field.
