Folsom Lake Day Trip

Parker's cub scout pack planned a great day trip
to Folsom Lake.  The weather was perfect and
after we set up our little camp, we took the
boys geocaching for the first time.  They enjoyed
it, especially picking a trinket out of the cache. Then we went
back to the lake and had lunch and spent the rest of the
afternoon swimming.  Everyone had a good time.

Heading off to look for caches using the
pack's new gps unit.

Trying to get a cylinder cache out of a
hole in the rock.

Looking at all the cool stuff in the cache.

Playing frisbee out in the lake.

Hiking Trips

In July, Parker and I along with Randy, our cubmaster, and Patrick,
one of our den leaders decided to check out a couple of
hiking trails to see if they would be good for the whole pack
to do.  They were back to back on a Saturday and Sunday,
and both hikes ended up being about 5 miles long each.

For the first hike we drove up to Camp Marin Sierra to check
out the campsite for our pack camping trip we were planning.
We decided to take their hiking trail to the Yuba river.
It was more like cross country than a trail, but we eventually
found the river and the views were great.

The next day Parker, Hannah and I went with them again
to check out the hike to the University Falls.  They are
water falls over large boulders that make 4 natural water slides
that you can slide down.  The hike wasn't too bad going down
and when we got to the falls we all had lunch and the guys and
kids had fun going on the waterfall slides.  The hike back
up was another story.  The first 1/2 mile was so steep I thought
I would have a heart attack though it didn't seem to
bother Hannah and Parker as much.  I must be getting old. In
the end, we decided that most of the pack wouldn't be able
to handle the hike so we decided to plan something else.

4th of July

We finally made it to July and it was a pretty busy month too.

On the 4th of July we had a BBQ/Swim Party for some
of the cub scout leaders and their families. Tim barbecued
tri-tip that we had on sandwich rolls, and I made tortellini,
caesar and fruit salads as well as cookies and fudge.  We
all had a fun time eating, swimming and then shooting
off fireworks when it got dark.
